Maila Haddad

L.Ac., D.Ac., Dipl. O.M.

Laila Haddad is a licensed acupuncturist by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine and is nationally board-certified as a Diplomate of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). Laila earned a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) from the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA) at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) with concentrations in Chinese, Japanese, and orthopedic style acupuncture, as well as herbal medicine.

Driven by a passion to expand the scope of her clinical knowledge and impact, Laila continued her studies at MCPHS to earn her Doctorate of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine (D.Ac.), focusing her research on childhood development. Her doctoral dissertation explored the role of East Asian Medicine as a preventative approach to childhood behavioral issues, demonstrating how acupuncture and Chinese medicine can support healthy emotional regulation and cognitive function through vagus nerve stimulation.

Laila completed multiple clinical rotations at the Acupuncture Treatment Center at MCPHS with a focus on the treatment of orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions using trigger point therapy, dry needling, and orthopedic acupuncture techniques. She also served two clinical internships working with animals in veterinary acupuncture care—a deeply rewarding and pleasurable experience. Laila also has extensive training in cosmetic acupuncture styles, including facial acupuncture, microneedling, nano-needling, and collagen induction therapy (CIT).

Laila’s journey into acupuncture was shaped by two formative experiences—one rooted in personal health, the other in physical recovery. In her late twenties, she was introduced to herbal and dietary therapy through a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who identified imbalances in her system that conventional medicine had overlooked. This pivotal experience not only restored her health but also ignited a deep respect for the integrative, holistic framework of Eastern medicine. Years later, as an athlete recovering from an acute back injury, she experienced firsthand the powerful impact of electroacupuncture and motor-point therapy in injury recovery—an experience that further cemented her commitment to the medicine she now practices.

In the clinic, Laila has a particular passion for the treatment of mental health and emotional conditions, especially anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. She draws on her own history as both patient and practitioner as well as the rich traditions of Chinese medicine and its broad range of modalities to selectively craft individualized treatment plans. Every treatment is responsive to each patient’s unique constitution and needs.

In addition to her clinical credentials, Laila holds both a BFA and an MFA in multidisciplinary studies from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Her background as an artist informs her medical practice—infusing it with creativity, intuition, and a keen attention to sensory detail.

Laila views acupuncture as both a healing art and a collaborative path toward wellness. She embraces Chinese medicine as a powerful approach not only for managing pain and illness but also for cultivating mental clarity, emotional balance, and resilience. Laila is intuitive, empathic, and compassionate and comes to each treatment with the intention not only of righting the ship, but reinforcing it in preparation for its continuing voyage.

Outside the clinic, Laila enjoys spending time with family, hiking, horseback riding, and researching integrative approaches to wellness. She is also an avid writer and former artist-in-residence, with a continued passion for storytelling and the healing power of narrative.
