Acupuncture FAQs
So...what exactly is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into specific points throughout the body. These acupuncture points are located along 14 major acupuncture pathways or meridians that carry the vital energy of your body known as “qi”. One may think of meridians like rivers. When these rivers become congested or depleted, your body is prevented from optimal nourishment and regeneration, resulting in pain and illness. Stimulating appropriate acupuncture points returns proper qi circulation to the meridian, restoring your body’s innate ability to heal itself- eliminating symptoms and pain, and promoting wellness.
What will happen in the first session?
The first session comprises an in-depth discussion of your primary concerns, full health history and a deep examination to determine the function of your body’s systems. Then we’ll get you comfortably situated on the table where your practitioner will place the needles. After that, you simply rest on the table for around 30 minutes. Most patients actually become so relaxed that they fall asleep during this time. Easy!
What conditions can acupuncture treat?
Chinese medicine is a complete medical system with the ability to treat a very wide variety of conditions. See the CONDITIONS TREATED section for a list.
Will it hurt?
No! These needles are tiny. Most patients do not even feel them being inserted- the most that you may feel is a quick little pinch or slight achy sensation. You should not feel any discomfort while resting with needles in and most patients usually fall asleep during their session.
